SCHOOLS' TOURNAMENT

COMMITTEE’S ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Meremere-Ohangai-Whakamara-Mokoia school football and basketball committee was held in the Mokoia school recently, Mr. G. W. Williams presiding over a fairly representative attendance. Mr. S. Lander was thanked for the use of his paddock and Mr. Dash and Mr. Fox for sending out the Hawera High School Band. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. G. W. Williams; secretary, Mr. H. S. Kibblewhite; committee, Messrs. D. T. Gardner, J. Williams, J. Dobson, J. Kerrisk, W. Marsh and Miss Schieb. It was decided to hold the annual tournament on July 19, and to present the cups on July 26. Each school will contribute three items at the concert. Mokoia Flag Five Hundred. Flag five hundred continues to draw a good number of players at Mokoia, the prizewinners at the last evening being Mr. R. WiUs, Mr. Ellis, Mr. G. Walsh and Mr. W. Gray. The winners of the most flags were Miss J. Wills and Mr. R. Wills. ' The fortnightly dance was well patronised, the winners of the Monte Carlo waltz being Miss I. Baldwin and Mr. B. Smeaton, and Miss V. Lord and Mr. Hammond. Music was provided by Mr. R. Wills, with extra dances by Misses Lander and Hammond and Mr. D. S. Richardson. Personal Items. Mrs. E. Johnson has returned after visiting relatives at Rowan Road. Mrs. W. J. Marsh recently spent a few days with her sister at Ngaere. Mr. and Mrs. E. Stuart, Te Aroha, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Bell. Mr. Collins, Matamata, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. G. Prowse. Miss M. Dawson, Matamata, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Marsh. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Woodville, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bell. Mrs. Agostinelli, who underwent an operation in a New Plymouth private hospital, is making steady progress towards recovery. SCHOOL JUBILEE BALL. BIG HAWERA EVENT TO-NIGHT. The celebrations in connection with the diamond jubilee of the Hawera school will commence with a ball in the Winter Show Buildings to-night at 8.30. Three halls have been engaged and there will be dancing in the Princess Ballroom, A lounge has been furnished in the lower hall and supper sittings will have relays of up to 300 guests. There will be individual decorative schemes in the halls. The general public is invited to attend. Visitors are arriving at Hawera for the celebrations, which will continue on Saturday and Sunday. PERSONAL ITEMS. Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. J. W. H. Gardner, Kaponga, was exapressed by members at the annual meeting of the South Taranaki Herd-Testing Association yesterday. Mr. C. R. Honeyfield was re-elected chairman of the Patea Hospital Board for a further term at the new board's first meeting this week. He welcomed the new members Messrs. C.’Campbell and A. J. Gibbs, and congratulated Mr. A. T. Christensen on being awarded the King’s Silver Jubilee MedaL
