EASTERN SUBURBS’ CLUB EVENING. RUGBY LEAGUE COMPETITION.' About 40 members and officials of the Eastern Suburbs Rugby League Club attended an informal gathering last night to celebrate the club’s success in winning the League competition, thereby. gaining possession of the Ptrice Cup. Representatives of other clubs and officials of the Taranaki centre were also present. ■ ’ ’ ' In proposing the toast of the Taranaki Rugby League, Mr. J. R. Sceats, president of the Eastern Suburbs club, expressed his club’s appreciation ' of the help and advice that the centre distributed. The difficulty under which the centre worked owing to its lack' of finance was stressed and the continued support of the Eastern Suburbs club was promised. In reply Mr. A. Adam, secretary of the centre, explained the difficulty of arranging outside matches. Although the centre was endeavouring to arrange a garne with the Auckland centre, there was a possibility of no match being played. He urged players to indulge in clean tactics, to keep fit and. above all to encourage the junior members. The toast to Mr. Collinson, the donor of the cup, was proposed by the club president, who pointed out that Mr. Collinson was an old English League player and lost year gave tangible expression of his interest in League by giving three cups to Taranaki to be permanently held by the club winning them. Mr. G. Lambert in reply said that as. an old sporting enthusiast what pleased him most in reference to the cups was the fact that they were not being won by the . one club but were “going around.” Other toasts were: The Referees, Mr. Keogh—Mr. G. Hooker; Eastern'* Suburbs Club, Mr. J. McLeod (Western Suburbs captain)—Mr. G. Moorhead (Eastern Suburbs captain); Other Sports, Mr. H. Davison—Mr. J. Sceats; The President, Mr. G. Moorhead.
