ALL BLACK BROTHERS
THE RECORD OF HENRY BROWN. Although only a few of the thousands of Rugby players ui New Zealand are honoured with All Black -recognition, there have been several ; instan6es of brothers wearing the fem leaf, says the Dominion. Apparently the ’ only two families with three • representatives •are the Brownlies, M., C; and L., and the ( Nicholls, H. E., H. G. and M. T; -Both these families provided outstanding players of their time in M. J. Brownlie and M,_F. Nicholls, both of whom have been included among the best flayers in the world at different times. Instances of two brothers being All Blacks are more numerous:—C. E." O. and V. Badeley, Auckland,. A. arid W. Bayly, Taranaki, S. and.W. E. Hadley, ’■ Auckland, A. and H. Good,’ Taranaki, J. D. and S. D. Shearer,.- Wellington, F. and D. Solomon, Auckland, -F. and J. T. Tilyard, Wellington,. H. W. Brown,’ Taranaki, and H. E. Brown, Auckland.
In the case of the Brown brothers, representation has been obtained from different provinces, After H.‘E. Brown left New Plymouth Boys’ High School he started his dub career as a junior at Inglewood, and was subsequently transferred to Taumarunui, where he played Rugby for two or three seasons. Transferring to Auckland he joined College Rifles. At the end of that season Brown was transferred to Papakura, 20 miles south of Auckland. He joined the Otahuhu club, the nearest city club to Papakura, and has been with that club ever since. H. E. Brown had a far harder battle for All Black honours than • his brother, and it is to be hoped he will have success in Great Britain. 1
