SHOW AMALGAMATION

NO DECISION YET MADE. ADDITIONS TO BUILDINGS. / ‘ s - Reporting to a general meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association on Saturday regarding the proposed amalgamation of the association and the Stratford Poultry and Winter Show Association, the A. and P. Association executive stated that .the recommendations of the annual meeting were at present being dealt with and that the executive would report to a special meeting of members early in July. Mr. A. David presided. Following the/recommendations of the annual meeting a sub-committee was set up to go into the question of changing the date of the show to make it an autumn show instead' of a spring show, continued the executive’s report. A report would be submitted on this subject later, when it had been thoroughly investigated. No change would be made for 1935, the dates fixed being November 27 and 28. \

, The following z committees had been appointed: Finance, Messrs. A. David, H. C. Johnson, J. W. Boon and C. Williams; building, Messrs. H. C. Johnson, A. David and J. Parish; visiting, for June, Messrs. S. Gadsby and W. Johnson. The following schedule revision committees were also set up: Cattle, Messrs. A. R. Claridge, S. Gadsby; A. H. R. Amess, W. A. Betts and F. Kirkwood; sheep, Messrs. K. Pegg and A. H. Bowen; horses and ring, Messrs. A. David, M. G. Trotter, J. Shotter and C. Williams; pigs, Messrs. J. Parish, A. O’Sullivan and J. M; Steiner; home industries and junior, Mr. A. H. R. Amess; cow judging, Mr. H. C. Johnson.

It was considered necessary to provide increased accommodation for the pig section, as last year extra temporary accommodation had to be erected to house a large proportion of the exhibits. This was a-very costly business, necessitating the carting of hurdles from Hawera and New Plymouth, the hiring of tarpaulins and the using of timber, the cost being about £3O. It was impossible to allow this expense to recur each year. The horse section officials were also strongly agitating for extra boxes. The building committee had these matters in hand and would report in full to the executive and general committees when its plans were completed. It seemed unwise to spend money year after year in temporary accommodation, said Mr. J. Shotter. It would be cheaper in the long run to provide permanent buildings. While he agreed with that point of view, said Mr. D. J. Malone, he felt that it should be considered whether the increase in entries was going to be permanent. . ‘ < PERSONAL. Mrs. L. Stokes, Eltham, is in Hawera hospital, where she is making progress after an operation.
