SCHOOL DENTAL WORK
REPORT ON PATEA CLINIC’S YEAR. The co-operation of the committee and secretary in "the work of the Patea dental clinic was referred to in a letter received from the chief postmaster at Wanganui at the annual meeting of the Patea dental clinic on Thursday. The letter stated that the clinic’s successful year was undoubtedly due to their efforts. Mr. E. F. Hemingway, presided. The nurse, Miss Small, stated that the year’s work included 1127 fillings, 171 extractions, 324 treatments, 252 cleanings, 236 miscellaneous and 87 new entrants examined and 321 re-examinations,. Complimentary reference to the nurse's work was expressed by members. The annual report said only two meetings were held during the year, routine business being dealt with as it arose. All schools in the district had been visited .by the secretary and nurse. The year commenced witlp a credit of £2O 13s 4d and ended with £2B 3s 7d, the excess of receipts over expenditure being £7 10s 3d. It should be possible to consider again' reducing the charge. The annual subscriptions were well paid, the rebate being disallowed in only five cases, and several children had not received treatment owing to the non-pay-ment of subscriptions. The concession on electricity had been continued by the Patea Borough Council. A change in staff had occurred, Nurse -Small succeeding Nurse Svensen, who left on transfer to Wanganui. Both nurses were attentive to their duties and helpful to the clinic committee’s officers. . Mr. R. D. Elliott, superintendent, and Mr. J. L. Saunders, director, paid visits to the clinic. . It was decided to reduce the annual charge to 3s u child. The chairman and secretary were re-appointed and with Nurse Small were authorised to deal with routine matters between meetings. The committee’s thanks were tendered to all who gave assistance.
