NOTE TO LEAGUE

ABYSSINIANS’ APPEAL

CHARGES AGAINST ITALY

IRRITATION SUGGESTED

Abyssinia, in a fresh Note to 1 the League of Nations, states that since Abyssinia’s appeal'to the League the situation had become worse and Italian aggression, against Abyssinian independence seemed imminent. ' A r -

The Note claims that Abyssinia has faithfully abided by the League Council decision whereas Italy has continued to send troops and large quantities of munitions to East Africa, accompanied by inflammatory threats., > xThe Note accuses the; Italian Bress of constantly reporting frontier incidents with the purpose of .disturbing ItalianAbyssinian relations. The Italian Government declared that these incidents confirmed its duty, to defend its interests. The Note declares that these assertions are pretexts for making aggression inevitable and suggests that the League should send a committee of neutrals to the frontier Jo investigate all'alleged or real incidents. j - ' . ■

A Rome message says that a member of the Abyssinian Air Force allegedly tore the Italian flag from the car of the first secretary of .the Italian Legation at Addis Ababa and cursed ' the Italians. The police arrested him and the Italian Ambassador protested to the Abyssinian Government. It IS'officially stated at Rome that definite instructions have not been given >to Italians to leave Abyssinia in the next few, weeks.
