SPORT AND SOCIAL EVENTS. ... Canadian foursomes were played at the Manakorihi golf links on Thursday afternoon, seniors partnering juniors. The cards returned were: A. G. Wills and H. Beckbessinger 89—14—75; Reg. George and F. Chittenden 88—12—76; H. R. Soffe and J. Priar 91—15—76; E. A. George and H. Alexander 90—13r-77; C. H. Sampson and H. J. Wells ,104-16-88.

Eleven tables were engaged at the Cycle and Athletic Club’s euchre party in St. John’s hall on Wednesday night. The prize-winners were Mrs. W. Easton 1, Mrs. R. Neil 2, Mr. M. White 1, Mrs. T. Cole 2.

An enjoyable euchre and dance party was recently held in the Soldiers and Civilians’ Club, when the Waitara'Municipal Band entertained the women’s committee which assisted the band’s cause in the recent queen carnival. Mr. T. Taylor thanked the band’s candidate, Miss M. Fulcher, and ,those who had assisted to raise funds for a worthy cause. The euchre prizes were won by Miss Paltridge and Mr. G. Barras. Mrs. D. Laing provided music for the dancing and supper was served. The half-yearly meeting of Court Raleigh No. 6246 Ancient Order of Foresters was held bn Thursday night, over 50 members being present, including D.C.R. Bro. R. Wall, D.B. Bro. F. R. Vickery, P.D.C.R.’s Bros. Kivell (Stratford), Gyde (Hawera) and Frewin (New Plymouth) and visiting brethren from Courts Egmont, Stratford, Waireka and Taranaki. The business of the court was conducted, the main features being the initiation ceremony by C.R. Bro. E. W. Procter, assisted by P.C.R. Bro. E. W.

Waters. Six new candidates were admitted into the order. At this stage*the newly-elected officers for the half-year were installed, the marshals being P.D.C.R.’s Bros. Kivell and Gyde. A social gathering followed, items being given by Bros. R. Brennan (Court Stratford), W. Crane and C. Smith (Court Raleigh).
