Miss Rheo Furrie entertained some of her Eltham friends on Monday afternoon.

Mrs. G. Hall was “at home” to friends on Friday afternoon. Miss Mollie Whittle was a contract bridge hostess on Thursday evening. Mrs. G. Hall was a bridge hostess last night.

Mrs. Grierson, who has been visiting her daughter at Thames, has returned. Mrs. E. Worthington has returned from a visit to Auckland.

Miss Phyllis Wood, Westport, is the guest of Mrs. C. Lindop. Hostesses at card evenings at Midhirst during the week were Mrs. G. Anderson, Mrs. P. Anderson and Mrs. Bunning. Miss Phyllis Wood, Wellington, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. C. Lindop. Miss IVlarie Smart visited New Plymouth during the week. Miss Beth Thomson is spending several weeks at Whakatane.

Mrs. R. Fryday has returned to Stratford, after visiting Auckland. Mrs. W. Farquarson returned during the week from Palmerston North. Mrs. G. T. Watkins, who was visiting her sister, Mrs. Spearman, has returned to Apoti.

The Misses Whelan, who were the guests of their sister, Mrs. D. J. Malone, left by Thursday express for Wellington. Mrs. L. Mortimer Rush has returned to New Plymouth after visiting Stratford. Mrs. Cole has returned to Fitzroy, New, Plymouth, after visiting her daughter, Mrs. C. EJlis. Members of the Little Theatre reading circle were entertained at the residence of Mrs. Smart last night. Members of the Portland Bridge Club were entertained on Tuesday by Mrs. D. Steven. Those present were Mesdames J. Lyons, D. Malone, Jeffries, Spence, L. Furrie, A. Coleman and L. Jardine. Mrs. 0. Curtis gave an enjoyable afternoon party on Wednesday. Those present. were Mesdames G. Clarke, D. Malone, J. Lyons, N. Douglas, Hunt, S. Porrit, E. Rutherfurd, Morris, Steven and Budge and Misses M. Porrit and M. Malone.

There was a good attendance at the meeting of the Stratford branch of the British Music Society, the vocal group holding a practice for the forthcoming opera night. Among those present were Mesdames C. Moore, jW. Clark, A. Sayers, Kilpatrick, Morton 'and Hutchings and Misses D. Keheley, Z. and M. Batten, J. Morton, Hutchings, G. Galbraith, Bartlett and D. Harris. Mrs. D. McLean gave an enjoyable bridge party at her home on Thursday afternoon when those playing were Mesdames J. Gray (KapOnifa), J. Hessell (Kaponga), D. Steven, J. Lyons, G. Hall, A. Coleman, D._ Malone, A, s Budge,, Hunt, A. Betts, J. Fredric, S. Pitt, Spence and A. Hugo and Misses M. Porrit and A. Cullianae (Kaponga). A jolly surprise party visited the home of Mrs. C. Lindop on Tuesday night in honour of Miss Phyllis Wood, Westport, who is the guest of her, aunt, Mrs. Lindop. The evening was spent in games, dancing and competitions. Those present were Misses T. and P. McCready, M. McCluggage, D. Keightly, W. Rawles, M. Leggat (Hawera), P. Wood (Westport), M. Femmel, D. Cook, M.'Young. , The St. Andrew’s Helpers’ League met in the St. Andrew’s hall.' on Tuesday afternoon, y/hen items were given by Mrs. Bryce and Mrs. Hutchins (Vocal duets), Mrs. Dick and Miss Rogers (piano and violin duets) arid Mrs. Hutchings (song). Mrs. Savage ' give a de,monstration of organdie petal-making. Those present were Mesdames J. MacGregor, Wendlebone, Grierson, Dick, Hutchings, Bryce, P. Aitken, Coldwell, J, Aitken, Kleenan, M. GiUovray, Thomson, Spence, Wunsch, Handly, Lilley, Savage and Milne and Miss Rogers. Mrs. H. T. Cooper and Mrs. V. Harris gave an evening in the Masonic hall on Tuesday for members and friends of the Forty Club. Music for dancing was played by Mr. V. Henry and items were given by Mrs. Harris (songs), Mr. and Mrs. M. Hughson (duets) and Mr. Hughson (songs). Mrs. Hughson played the accompaniments. Mrs. Cooper wore a frock of black ring velvet trimmed with white georgette, and Mrs. Harris a black satin frock with sequinned tunic. Those present were Mesdames E. Masters (wine pin striped silk and. lace), R. Macßae (cocoa brown georgette and fawn lace), E. Batten (cherry red georgette and lace), F. Stephens (black lace and georgette), C. Campbell (gold satin trimmed with rose), M. Hughson (flesh pink and brown georgette), J. Petrie (black crinkled crepe and white tucked georgette), Pepperill, Eltham (black lace and green coatee), Misses J. Macßae (midnight blue satin and silver), Z. Batten (tangerine velvet and • coatee with white fur), E. Wilmshurst (peach figured satin with frilled net godets) and D. Harris (white hailstone organdie and shell pink). Extra dances were played for by Miss Wilmshurst.

A surprise party organised by Mrs. Vinsen and Mrs. Sisarich was held in Miss Margaret Lawrence’s studio on Wednesday evening in honour of Mrs. McCaskill, who is to leave Stratford to live at St. Kilda. The evening was spent in games, dancing and community singing Items were given by Mrs. W. Clark (songs) Miss M. Brown (songs), Miss Win mill (tap dance and skipping dance), Mr. W. Foley (recitations), and Mr. Ellis (comet solos). Mrs. Marsh played dance music and the accompaniments for the songs and community singing. After supper Mr. E. White, master of ceremonjes, presented Mrs. McCaskill with a black leather purse and cheque enclosed. Mr. White expressed the good wishes of the donors. Mr. Ellis responding for Mrs. McCaskill. Among those present were Mesdames McCaskill, Sisarich, B. Vinsen, H. Childs, R. Marsh W. Clark, Eager, Wilson. Maulder, Hucker, Barry, Pollock,' White, J. Jones, Bamford, Stavely, P. Coe, Winmill, Elliot, Lippwell, Bingham, G. Lamplough, McCullam (Tariki), Misses Laverty, Barry, M. Brown, Elliot, Winmill, Hartigan, Cooper, Porter, Foley, G. Dodunski. Gaily coloured balloons and streamers and pink heather made charming decorations in the drawing room of the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Richards where an enjoyable coming-of-age party was held in honour of their son, Ronald. A pleasant evening was spent in competition, games and dancing, while a euchre tournament was held, the prizes being won by Mrs. Cameron and Mr. Haylock, The competitions were won by Miss E. Cameron, Mr. R. Swindlehurst, Miss J. Raynor and Mr. W. Pitcairn. Items were given by Misses Raynor, Una Lobb and Thelma
