DUEL THREATENED

LEADER OF GOVERNMENT DR. J. GOMBOS INVOLVED DEPUTIES DECIDE ISSUE EACH WITH TEN WOUNDS By Telegraph—Press Assn-—Copjjight. Budapest, June 7. The Prime Minister of Hungary, Dr. Julius Gombos, was challenged last week to a duel by an Opposition member of the Chamber of Deputies, Dr. Eckhardt, following an alleged revelation that Div Gombos provided information which was the subject of a previous quarrel between Dr. Eckhardt and Count Bethlen. Subsequently Dr. Gombos and Dr. Eckhardt settled their quarrel without a duel, but this only precipitated another challenge to a duel, which was accepted, and threatened a third. Dr. Eckhardt to-day fought with light cavalry sabres a Government deputy, M. Szalay. Each was wounded ten times until the duellists desisted from sheer exhaustion. Dr. Gombos earlier appeased Dr. Eckhardt by saying that Count Bethlen misquoted him but Count Bethlen sent his seconds to Dr. Gombos. Dr. Gombos, contrary to expectations, however, admitted his misunderstanding with Dr. Eckhardt and Count. Bethlen accepted his explanation, obviating a duel.
