HELP FOR CRIPPLES
SOCIETY AT CHRISTCHURCH. need for funds stressed. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The need for a society to help the •crippled children of New Zealand and of funds for the society to carry on its work were emphasised by speakers today at a public meeting called by the Mayor, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P., to stimulate interest in the Canterbury and Westland branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society. The branch was formed recently by 15 members of the Christchurch Rotary Club. There was a large attendance at the meeting to-day at the conclusion. Those present passed a resolution undertaking to become members of the society and pledging themselves to. do everything possible to increase the membership. Mr. J. Mawson Stewart, who presided, said it was not intended to make the movement a Rotary one. Rotary had made the first move but .when the society was established Rotary would probably drop out, although doubtless some Rotarians would remain in the society as members. Another speaker said the society was not being formed merely to dispense the interest or capital of Lord Nuffield’s gift. A much larger income would be needed, •> and this would have to come from mem- < bers and from public subscription. .■
