BLEDISLOE’S TITLE BIRTHDAY HONOURS LIST CREATION OF SIX BARONS SEYMOUR HICKS A KNIGHT MR. JOHN MASEFIELD O-M. Rec. 6.30 p.m. London, June 3. The silver jubilee year of the King’s reign also holds His Majesty’s 70th birthday, and on this occasion the list of birthday honours conferred is more comprehensive than usual. Among the long list of Knights Bachelor are Mr. Noel Ashbridge (chief engineer to the Broadcasting Corporation), Mr. Charles, Edwards (chief Labour whip), Mr. Seymour (Hicks (well-known actor-manager), Mr. Arthur Pugh, Mr. Harold Harmsworth, Professor Laidjaw (the pathologist), Mr. Brupe Richmond (editor of The Times Literary Supplement), Mr. W. Russell (Keeper of the Royal Academy) and Mr. Charles Leonard Woolley (distinguished archaeologist). There ar® also lists' for the Dominions, India and Colonies and Protectorates. In the Order of the Bath Admiral Sir J. D. Kelly and Sir William Fisher, Generals Sir J. Gathorne-Hardy and Air Chief Marshal Sir E. Ellington become Knights Grand Cross. Among the Knights Commander is Sir Edward Harding (permanent undersecretary of the Dominions office). The Order of Merit is conferred on three notable men, Mr. John Masefield (the poet laureate), Dr. Vaughan Williams ’ (the distinguished British composer) and Sir F. Gowland Hopkins (the discoverer of vitamins). In the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George the Knights of the Grand Cross include Sir Henry Birchenough (South Africa), Sir W. T. White (Canada), Sir John Maffey (permanent undersecretary for the Colonies), Sir J. H. R;eed and Viscount Chilston (British Ambassador at Moscow). Among the Knights Commander are Mr.' Stephen Jaselee (librarian at the Foreign Office), Mr. Hugh Gurney (British Minister at Copenhagen), Mr. S. P. Waterlow (British Minister at Athens), Mr. H. E. Fass (Public Trustee to the Sudan dovermnent) and Mr. G. B. Sanfeom (commercial counsellor to the British Embassy at Tokio). Mr. Crutchley, British Government representative at Canberra, has been given a C.B. and Dr. Defoe, who has tended the Dionne quintuplets, an 0.8. E.
