PLATINUM TRACES
RE DISCOVERY AFTER 20 YEARS.
AMATEUR GEOLOGIST’S ACTIVITY. A platinum deposit, known 20. years ago to exist in the Awakino district, has been prospected recently by Mr.'R. W. Davies, a resident of Spotswood and well known as an amateur geologist and diviner of water and metals. Mr. Davies claims that he has taken out samples of metal which are similar to those which the Government Assayer identified as platinum when forwarded for examination after a similar prospect made by him many years ago. As far as can be at present ascertained the xnetal occurs alluvially in a sedimentary stratum and appears as small, pure flakes. The geology of the district in which the discovery was made is “difficult” geologically, but Mr. Davies hopes that further investigation may result in the discovery of a deposit of commercial value. Mr. Davies has discovered traces of other metals in Taranaki and has interested himself in the perfection of a divining apparatus for which he already claims much success in operation.
