KING’S BIRTHDAY HONOURS.

The King’s Birthday Honours list, insofar as New Zealand is concerned, varies little in nature from established precedent, except that in the minor awards it is more comprehensive than usual. With the exception of three they are non-political in nature, and are rewards for long and honourable Service. Sir James Parr, already a K.C.M.G., has been advanced to a higher grade of knighthood, tlte G.C.M.G., and Sir Alfred Ransom, K.C.M.G., received recognition of the political responsibilities that have culminated in his position as actingPrime Minister. The unique career of Sir Francis Frazer as president of the Arbitration Court has earned him a knighthood, and a similar honour conferred oh Sir Henfy Horton may be taken as a tribute to the work of the Press. The awards to the Administrator of Samoa and the Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces need no explanation. They constitute recognition of good service for the State. Distinguished academic achievement, and, in the case of the last two, administrative ability, have been recognised in the awards to Professor Elder and Drs. Marsden and Watt. Die remainder of the recipients in the civil list have all performed meritorious service in social work, State departmental positions or their own particular walks of life. Die only Taranaki recipient is Dr. Doris Gordon, StraHord, whose activities for the community are well known, and the congratulations of the province should be extended to her. The military list includes no departure from previous custom, the awards being justified on the grounds of length of service and efficiency.
