GENERAL RAIN EXPECTED
SOUTHERLY GALES PREDICTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The weather is expected to be cloudy to overcast, with rain in most districts, snow on the highlands and hail in places, says the 4 p.m. forecast. A very deep depression is crossing the Dominion, the centre being to the south. Pressure has risen- rapidly over eastern Australia. Moderate to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force in places, are expected, but a change to southerly gales should set in soon in the south, becoming general in about 24 hours. Seas will be rough on the west coast and about Cook Strait, but elsewhere moderate, later becoming rough generally.
