TARANAKI ATHLETES’ SUCCESS. OVER £llO WON. IN TWO DAYS. New Plymouth Cycle and Athletic League were prominent at the big sports meetings during Easter. Members competed at sports meetings at Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, Pio Pio and Whakatane and won between them £llO 10s in prize money. At Te Kuiti on Saturday £34 10s was won. Successful athletes were: G. Stevens (£l6) first wheel race, C. Parker (£10) first three miles cycle, F. Telford (£6 10s) first 880 yards running, _L. Stevens (£2) place prize in a cycling event. At Whakatane the same day £23 was the amount won. J. Foote wdn the wheel race worth £2O and for minor placings in the cycle races T. Hookham and C. Burke each collected £1 10s. At Otorohanga on Easter Monday members were successful in winning cash prizes to the total of £4l. The winners were: G. Parker (£10), T. Haw (£10), C. Burke (£7 10s). G. Tuffery (£7), J. Foote (£2 10s), L. Stevens (£2), and G. Stevens (£2). At the Pio Pio sports on Easter Monday the two cycle races were won by the New Plymouth cyclist, H. Eva, who collected £6 for his successes.
