ANZAC DAY SERVICE. BIG MUSTER OF EX-SERVICEMEN. One of the largest musters of exservicemen for some years paraded for the Anzac commemoration service at Patea yesterday. A gathering was held at the town hall and later the parade moved to the memorial gates at the domain, where wreaths were laid. The Mayor, Mr. F. Ramsbottom, presided at the service at the town hall, and associated with him were Surgeon-Captain W. T. Simmons, Captain Campbell (Salvation Army) and the Revs. H. B. Burnett (Presbyterian), Wilson (Methodist) and W. H. Walton (Anglican). The ' service was conducted '■ by the several’ ministers, and Surgeon-Captain Simmons addressed the crowded hall on the Returned Soldiers’ Association movement, its aims and objects. In another address Mr. Burnett spoke of Anzac. Before the service closed Mr. Ramsbottom expressed that so large a number of ex-servicemen had paraded. The muster was one of the strongest for years, he said. Headed by the Municipal Band, under Drum-Major J. McGrath, the parade marched from the town hall to the domain. Lieutenant R. W. Haddow was in charge of the military unit, which included a section of Queen Alexandra’s ■ < Mounted Rifles corps, under Captain Prescott, and- the Taranaki-West Coast * Regiment. Girls Guides, Brownies and u Scouts assisted in the parade. DeputyScoutmaster Lithgow led the Scouts and Miss G. Kelly the Cubs, while -Misses M. Hamerten and Kiihfuss led the Guides and Brownies. The Alton troop was led by Miss Foreman. At the domain after a short but im- ? pressive ceremony the Last Pest was sounded and wreaths placed on the gates by ex-servicemen and others. Service at Waverley. A short service in commemoration of Anzac was held at the Waverley town hall yesterday. The Rev. J. - Gardiner conducted the service and there was a large muster of ex-servicemen. After the service the returned men, with a unit of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles corps, under Captain J. Stevens, N. marched to the cenotaph for the placing of wreaths.
