‘SOCIAL CREDIT MENACE’ MAJOR DOUGLAS’ SCHEME OPPOSITION IN ALBERTA i CONTRACT-FOR TWO YEARS By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. Edmonton, April 17. The Opposition (Conservative) Leader to-day warned toe Government of Alberta that the contract to engage Major Douglas would contribute to the “Social Credit menace” in Alberta. In a “free-for-all” argument on Tuesday resulting in challenges to take toe stand on the social credit issue being bandied about with charges of “fenceriding” and “side-stepping,” toe Legfe- < lature approved of the Government’s contract to bring Major Douglas to Alberta as a reconstruction adviser at a cost of 9000 dollars or more under a two-years’ contract. Under the resolution Major Douglas will advise as to what extent his .proposals are practical within the provincial jurisdiction and what initial steps of any kind are best calculated to bring about the greatest amour., of economic relief to the people of the province. Major Douglas is expected to leave England on April 25. The period during which he will remain in Alberta is unknown.
