' - Continued interest was being maintain- ...i,ed in the activities of the Ratapiko branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, it was reported by the chairman, Mr. M. Nolan, at the annual jneettag on •'$ Monday night. Attendances had' good at the seven general and three executive meetings held during the .year. . A wire variety of subjects had been dealt with, and, judging by the discus- J- : £ sion, members were using the branch /M more to assist them in their problems. One new member had joined, making the A* number of financial members 22, the same as last year. Af One euchre and dance pasty was „ held A in conjunction with the Women’s Division and resulted in a profit of £1 3s smoke concert on March 19 was a great 'A success socially but not financially. It ■Aw was held as S farewell function to, Mri -'A J. M. Smith, instructor in agriculture, who presented the prizes for the. field competitions. There were 17 entries in A s the competitions and Mr. J. W. Stachurski won the championship cup for * "A mixed crop of swedes and chou moellier. 7, A No remits were sent to the provincial executive during the. year, but several j-g! appearing from time to time in the provinqial agenda paper from other branches were discussed and voted upon. A A A letter of sympathy had been sent to A the family of Mr. J. Bredin, one of the members, whose death had occurred. , There was a credit balance of £4 9d. • - After the meeting Mr. H. E. Blyde. spoke on the work of the Fanners’ Union, i dealing particularly with recent tegisla-'A tion.
