AN EASILY-MADE KNIFE BOX. This useful knife box can be made from pieces of quarter-inch wood for the parts which form the sides, ends and centre division, and a piece of three-ply for the bottom part. The two sides are eleven and a quarter inches long and one and three-quarter inches wide, and the ends the same width and eight inches long. Carefully plane these parts on both sides and edges, then mark out the centre slot on each end, as indicated in diagram A. Saw down these lines to a depth of one-eighth of an inch and chisel out the slots. For the centre division, saw a piece of wood to the sizes given in diagram B,

and, after planing sides, ends and bottom edge, mark put the curved shape of the top. Next, make two holes with a five-eighths-inch centre-bit and cut away the wood between. them > to' form the handle. Smooth the edges of the slot with glasspaper, then roughly cut the curved top to shape with a pad-saw. and chisel. Finish -the ■ edge with l a rough file and glasspaper. . Cut the piece of plywood for the bottom eleven and three-quarter inches long arid nine inches wide, and rub the edges with glasspaper. Fix- the plywood in place with panel pins driven through it into the sides and ends of the box. Glue the ends, of’the centre division into the slots, and fix it with three or four small brass countersunk screws driven in through the plywood bottom.
