MOULDING STAR TEAM

OLD FORWARD IN CHARGE After two seasons as runner-up in the northern division, the Star team had a bad patch last year with a young team that did not find its feet. Very little has happened to that team during the summer and, with approximately the same combination to work with this season, results should be better. Mr. “Kruger” Clarke, a battler of the Star forwards of a few years ago, is in charge of the team and means to get the utmost out of it. Lack of training last year was commented on by officials at the annual meeting and it is being seen to that similar criticism at the next annual me-ting will not be justified. Bedford, J. Kinsella, Aubrey, Wilkins, Adlam and C. Kinsella are the backs left from last year, Clegg being missing this year. Aubrey will probably move in from the wing to Clegg’s place at second five-eighth, with Adlam at first and C. Kinsella at half. Wilkins and Nielson, a first.' junior, are vying for the centre position l and McKay, a Wellington senior, is a prospective winger with Joe Kinsella. McKay went very well for Poneke last year, an injury keeping him out of the Colts’ team which played Taranaki B. Frethey has retired after several good seasons with the forwaids, leaving Signal, Sampson, Rutherford, Whittaker, Morris and J. Maclean to carry on. Additions to the pack are C. J. Maclean, a former New Plymouth Old Boys man, and Gray, a newcomer to the district, who has not yet been seen properly in action.

With a year’s experience behind it last season’s young team should be higher up than 12th this time.
