Sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. T. Dickson, Vogeltown, was expressed by a gathering of Pukekura Park Tennis Club members last night. Professor C. Stanton. Hicks, -formerly of Dunedin, is on leave from the University of Adelaide for the purpose of conducting research in clinical medicine. He is now at Vienna.

The Rev. T. H. Carr, who will succeed the Rev. W. B. Cuming as minister in charge of the Waitara Methodist circuit, is expected to arrive at Waitara to-day, accompanied by Mrs. Carr. The death has occurred of Mr. J. P. Shand, J.P., a well-known bookseller and Mason, at the age of 73, reports a Wellington Press Association message. Mr. W. H. Freeman, S.M., and Mrs. Freeman left New Plymouth yesterday to visit Mrs. Freeman’s parents at Tauranga. They return to New Plymouth at the beginning of the week, and leave for Invercargill on Thursday. Dr. Harry Cyril Boydell, geologist and mining engineer, who formerly lived in New Zealand and Australia, died on Tuesday at Chester, Nova Scotia, at the age of’ 56, reports a cablegram. Dr. P. L. Foote, medical superintendent of the Westport hospital, accompanied by Mrs. Foote, will leave shortly to do postgraduate work in England, for which purpose he has been granted nine months’ leave of absence by the Buller Hospital Board. Dr. Foote, who arrived at Westport 20 years ago, was tendered a public farewell recently, at which he was presented with a wallet and a travelling rug for Mrs. Foote. President of the Oakura branch of the Farmers’ Union for 11 years, Mr. C. J. Harris at the annual meeting of the branch last night resigned his position owing to his approaching removal to New Plymouth. Members expressed regret at his departure, as it was recognised that he had done yeoman service for the branch in many directions. Despite the fact that he was moving from the district, pressure was brought to bear to induce Mr. Harris to accept the presidency for the ensuing year, but in the interests of the branch Mr. Harris declined to accede to the request. He was unanimously elected a life member. Mr. E. L. Grey was elected president.
