TARIKI WOMEN’S HOCKEY

ANNUAL MEETING OF CLUB. The annual meeting of the Tariki Ladies’ Hockey Club was held on April 16.' There was only a fair attendance. Mr. H. Gush, who presided, in his annual report said. it having been the club's first year (which was always the hardest) he had to congratulate the club on its excellent financial position, for it showed a credit balance of £l9 4s lOd, after supplying players with all gear and travelling expenses. That was something to be proud of; The substantial balance was due mainly to a successful queen carnival held with the object of raising £20.. After a month ■; it realised £36 2s 6d. .He thanked all helpers during the carnival, especially the two candidates and their parents, who not only consented to let their daughters stand but assisted greatly themselves. All players were practically new to the game an '? the progress shown was remarkable, the team being beaten in the final by Inglewood, winner of the Egmont Cup. The club was represented at the June 4| tournament at Hawera, at Eltham and at New Plymouth where teams did well. The game played against Pihama at New Plymouth was a brilliant exhibition. The club was unfortunate that on the eve of commencing the competitions it lost its team captain. Later it lost Miss D. McCullum. The team captain ' throughout the season (Miss B. Harkness) had an operation and the club wished her a speedy recovery. To Miss M. Thoms, former centre-forward, best wishes for the future were expressed. He thanked all who assisted the club in any way, not forgetting several married women who filled vacancies when it was found difficult to procure a full team, those who assisted with the transport of players, ■ referees and the Press. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. R. James; president, Mr. H. Gush; seven vice-presidents; secretary, Mrs. E. Therkleson; treasurer, Miss H. Young; auditor, Mr. L. Loveridge; management and social committee, Mesdames L. Hollis, L. Loveridge, Misses D. James and G. Rumball; coach and selector, Mr. H. Gush; club captain, Miss J. Therkleson; vice-captain, Miss O. James. A letter was received asking the president to attend a meeting; at New Plymouth to discuss entering in the northern division. It was received too late to attend and it was decided to defer the question, the president Using his discretion when attending the association meeting. The secretary was voted Ah honorarium of £1 Is. Personal Items. Mrs. J. Hucker, Surrey Road, who has been for some months a patient in the New Plymouth hospital, has returned to her home. Mr. N. Burrell, who was recently married at Stratford, has returned to Tariki, accompanied by Mrs. Burrell, to take up Residence, , Miss D. James, who has been on a visit to Manaia, has returned.
