SWIMMING YEAR

TARANAKI CENTRE’S POSITION. RESULT OF RECENT SEASON. A splendid improvement in the Taranaki Centre’s position following a record year was annuoiiced at the final executive meeting of the season at New Plymouth on Monday night. Those present were Messrs. F. J. Eggleton (chairman), W. A. Brown, V. J. Henderson, N. Berge, H. Watkins, R. Crossman, K. J. Staunton and J. F. Devine (honoray secretary). The secretary repoted on the position of the centre finances as revealed by a provisional balance. The credit was over £3O, and the final balance after payment of outstanding accounts would probably be over £25. Mr. Eggleton expressed satisfaction at the excellent position, pointing out that the season had commenced with a credit balance of 2s 7d. Had it not been for the fact that the senior championships metting was held on the only wet night in six weeks the result would have been even better.

No polo entrance fees had been paid by any clubs, reported the secretary. The total amount payable for the 19 teams entered by seven clubs was £5 Is 6d. It was decided to circularise clubs asking for payment. Records established by swimmers in special races at club carnivals through the season were officially recognised. 1 It was decided to obtain a supply of certificates for award to. placed swimmers in Taranaki championship eyents. Mr. J. W. Moorhead, Taranaki delegate to the senior national championships at Auckland in February, reported on the transactions of the annual conference. He referred to the proposal to establish a Maori championship meeting, which received the Auckland conference’s ap roval. The first meeting would be held at Rotorua and there was a possibility of Taranaki being offered the championships the following year.
