TENNIS FOR PEASE CUPS

FINALS AT MANGATOKI. The finals for the Pease Cups were played at Mangatoki on Saturday under wintry conditions. There was a good attendance. The results were:— Semi-finals:®Miss D. Gatenby (7) beat Miss R. Nicholas (20) 50—45, Miss D. Gatenby (7) beat Mrs. H- Lambie (8) 50—41, Miss N. Gatenby (12) beat Mrs. H. Linn (10) 50-43. Finals: Miss N. Gatenby (12) beat Miss D. Gatenby (7) 50—40, R. Keith (15) beat L. Terry (15) 60-54. Most of the games were well contested and produced good and interesting tennis. Although the cups have changed hands in each case, they will remains in the same homes. The handicapping proved good throughout. On Thursday a closing day tournament will be held and the season’s trophies will be presented. Basketball Social. There was only a moderate attendance at a social held by the Mangatoki Basketball Club on Tuesday/ the southerly

weather keeping many away. Prizes for progressive euchre were won by Miss Iris Carlson (13 games), Miss Joyce Carlson (12 games) Mr. J. Weller (11 games) and Mr. W. Bennie, who played off with Mr. A. Batten. Dance music-was played by Miss Elsie Gatenby. Mr. Stewart Morgan was master of ceremonies and Miss Iris Carlson secretary.
