WAVERLEY TOWN BOARD.

GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. The monthly meeting of the Waverley .Town Board ; was held on Thursday. Present were Miessrs. W. Heginbothau. (chairman), S. Bromiley, W. Wicks, J. J. Johnston and F. Jeffery. The monthly statement showed the following figures: General account credit £143 ,9s 9d; interest credit £279 19s lid; separate credit £3l 3s Bd. It was decided.that the clerk be granted leave of absence and that Mr. J. C. Gray 'be appointed acting clerk. Accounts totalling £656 8s 9d were passed for .payment. The same members sat as the Waverley Domain Board. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £2B 9s 10d.. Correspondence was received from Mr.' J. W. Sinclair, who wished to give up one of his domain sections. This was left to Messrs. Johnston and Jeffery to deal with. These members were also instructed to attend to a request from the football club with reference to the shed and grounds. It was resolved that Mr. C. E. Benson be granted a lease of a section for one year from April 1, 1935, at £1 per acre and rates. The Rev. S. R. Gardiner will conduct the Anzac Day service, after which returned soldiers will parade. Miss N. McDonald, Wanganui, was a visitor to Waverley during the week as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Joe Pepper. Mr. Allport and the Misses Allport, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. ■ Stanchon, Waverley, returned to Auckland at the week-end. Tfie Rev. J. A. Rybqrn, Eltham. occupied the pulpit in St. Andrew’s Church, Waverley, on Sunday at both morning end evening services. Another inter-club Rugby match prior to the opening of the season was played , between Pirates (Wanganui) and Waverley. Waverley won by 11 pointe to 3. POPULAR ALPINE CLUB MEMBER. MISS P. MCGLASHAN FAREWELLED. ; Miss Phyllis McGlashan, who is shortly to be married, was farewelled by mem- ■ bers of the Mount Egmont Alpine Club, of which she has been for some years ■ a valued member, at the first of the i club socials on Thursday evening. • References to Miss McGlashan’s value ■ as a club member, regret at her departure and best wishes for the future were

expressed by Messrs. Rod Syme (clubcaptain) and S. F. Prosser. In a letter apologising for his absence the president, Mr. L. D. Hooker, added his appreciation of Miss McGlashan’s association with the club and expressed good wishes. On behalf of club members Miss E. Buist presented the guest with a silver hot water jug. Miss McGlashan replied.

Community singing, dancing,, games and vocal solos by Miss Jean McGlashan, (with Miss P. McGlashan at the piano), and Mr. R. Maunder occupied the first part of the evening. There followed a series of motion pictures taken by Mr. T. Lay during his recent trip to the Melbourne scout - jamboree, and then supper was dispensed by the -women of the committee. • - .. •■
