PARTIES TO AWARD

EMPLOYEES AND BENZINE PUMPS. ARBITRATION COURT DECISIONS. Application for the joining of a large number of storekeepers and dairy companies’ operating benzine pumps throughout Taranaki to the New Zealand (except Marlborough) Motor Mechanics Award was made in the Arbitration Court at New Plymouth yesterday. Objection was offered on behalf of several storekeepers and dairy companies not employing a mechanic and in these cases the applications were struck out on the understanding that pumps were not operated outside ordinary working hours. Paramount Tyre Service, N.P. (Mr. V. Duff) lodged an objection on the grounds that the company’s business was a specialist one and might be adversely affected by future amendments. The objection was not sustained, the court pointing out that similar companies in the centres were parties to the awards. Auto Radiators, N.P., Ltd. (Mr. H. St. L. Reeves) opposed the application, which was struck out, it being stated that the operations of the company came under the Tinsmiths and Sheet Metal Workers’' Award.
