MATE RESCUES ENTIRE CREW

The mate of the German steamer Martha Heinrich Fischer rescued the entire crew of 32 when the ship was wrecked in a terrific gale at Stofossen, on the Norwegian coast, recently. Crowds gathered on the shore and stood helpless as the ship was pounded on the rocks. A boat was lowered. In a few seconds it was smashed to splinters. Then the mate dived overboard with a rope tied round his waist. He was hurled on to the beach by the waves, and escaped alive. Breeches buoy apparatus was rigged up by means of the rope, and in three hours all the crew were safe.
