CONJURING MADE EAST

The Broken Match.

A match wrapped in a handkerchief is broken in halves, yet when shaken out it is found to be completely restorer. Hie Secret. There are three ways of doing this trick, and if you do it three times, onco by each method, you will find that each one makes the others even more puzzling than they would be if done alone. The first method is to have a second match hidden in the hem of an handkerchief. It is this match which is broken; consequently the other one drops out undamaged. Now repeat the trick but borrow a handkerchief. This time you do not break the match at ajl. You hold it to someone’s ear and click your thumbnail which makes a noise exactly like that of a match breaking. Finally, to convince everyone that the match is really broken, repeat the trick and actually break the match across once. Do not, however, break it completely in two, and you will find that by straightening it out within the folds of the handkerchief you can make it appear to be whole again. The audience having been allowed to examine the match after each of the first two performances, will not question that it is an undamaged one which is shown to tnem at the finish.

Thought Reading. Take a few cards and hold them up in a fan with the faces to the audience. Ask someone to touch any card he pleases. When he does this you secretly turn up the left hand bottom comer of the card. This movement is entirely hidden frem the audience by the other cards but it tells you at once which card has been touched because the turned up corner reveals the index. Do not reveal you knowledge at once but, putting the cards on one' side, ask your assistant to think of the one he touched and pretend to read the reflection of his thoughts in his eyes. With a little practice you will be able to do this trick with a whole pack of cards, but start by dping it with 8 Or 10. .
