ANOTHER ACCESSORY

AUTOMATIC WINDOW BLIND. There seems no end to the number and variety of electrical accessories which have been invented 1 for the car. Indeed,*it has'been suggested that they are becoming so numerous as to add unnecessarily, to the complexity of the mechanism, yet some of them are not only simple arid ingenious but are a definite help . to . the driver. Among the latest “gadgets” announced is an electrically-operated blind for the rear window. Often when turning or slowing down at night it is necessary that the driver, should be able to view the road behind through the window, but at other times a blind is desirable to check the headlamp glare from following cars. The instrument in question consists of the /usual small roller blind mounted at the foot of the window above the back-seat squab. It is regulated by an arrangement of cords and small pulleys, the main cord being connected to. a short endless chain driven by a diminutive electric motor. The apparatus is concealed behind the back squab, and the circuit is taken to a push-button on the instrument board. When the button is first pressed the blind is raised, but when pressed again it lowers. The system is said to be very dependable, and . obviously is much easier to operate than the present mechanical, contrivance, with which the driver must hook and unhook the cord of the remote control.
