VAN DRIVER KILLED
VEHICLE WRECKED IN SMASH. OTHER DRIVER JUMPS TO SAFETY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, April 12. George E. Nutter, aged 55, of Otahuhu, was killed instantly early this morning when his light lorry collided with a heavy lorry owned by Waione Piggeries, Ltd., and driven by Arthur E. Viles. Nutter left home in the dark presumably for the Westfield abattoirs. When he reached Great South Road he collided with the other van proceeding in the same direction. The light van was almost a total wreck. Nutter was found lying in the channel about a dozen yards away. The heavier lorry jumped the kerbing and smashed through a wire fence into a vacant allotment 70 yards from the scene of the collision. It is understood that Viles jumped, from his lorry, receiving slight abrasions on his hands and nose. Nutter leaves a wife and also a daughter, Mrs. K. R. Kay, Gisborne.
