One soldier was killed and six wounded. At least 18 tribesmen were killed. The tribesmen crossed the Swat River and made a determined surprise night attack. Troops repulsed the tribesmen with machine-gun and rifle fire. The mad fakir for several months has been endeavouring to inflame the tribesmen of the Malakand area to revolt against British rule, but has been defeated in several earlier engagements.
