CATTLE AND SHEEP SALES EXPORTERS WANT LIGHT EWES. DEMAND ’ FOR ADDINGTON LAMBS. HIGHER RATES FOR GOOD STEERS. Christchurch, April 10. There was a good sale of store and fat sheep and fat lambs at Addington today. Store lambs met a good demand, ewe lambs making to 19s 3d, and Wether lambs selling at unchanged values. Store sheep: A smaller entry, but still larger than usual at this time of the year, met a keen sale for all classes of ewes, particularly better sorts. Extra good 2-tooth sold to 31s; ordinary 2tooth, 22s to 24s 6d; medium 2-tooth Romney ewes, to 265; extra good 4-year halfbred, to 23s 2d; ordinary to medium 4-year, 18s to 20s; good s.m. Romney cross, to 18s 9d; f.m., 8s to 12s. Fat lambs: 2500 were penned, all export buyers operating at 6|d a lb for firsts. Fat sheep: 4000 were penned and met a general improvement up to Is a head. There was good export demand for light ewes. Competition was again good for all but plain cattle ,at the Westfield fat stock sale to-day, and repent price levels were easily maintained. The yarding of ox beef was well up to the average, comprising 200 steers, while 600 cows and heifers represented the largest yarding for some time. In both classes there were a number of exceptioiially good lines. Ox beef and good quality cows and heifers were very firm at late rates, while inferior and plain sorts were hard to quit, the sale dragging noticeably when rough lines were offered. Extra choice ox beef to 24s per 1001 b; phoice and prime, 21s to 235; secondary and plain, 17s to 19s; prime young cow and heifer beef, 20s to 235; other cow beef, 12s to 19s. Extra heavy prime steers made £lO 5s to £ll ss; heavy prime, £8 15s to £9 17s 6d; lighter prime, £7 10s to £8 12s 6d; light prime, £6 to £7 7s 6d; small and unfinished, £4 to £5 15s; extra prime young cows and heifers, £6 to £7 10s; heavy, prime, £5 to £6 7s 6d; ligjftipr prjrpe, £3 10s to £4 17s 6d; other killapje cows, £1 10s to £3 7s 6d. A full yarding of calves included a fair proportion of good quality heavy vealers, for which the demand remained unchanged, late rates ruling, but all others eased about 2s a head, though there were some improvements in the late sales. Runners 30s to 80s; vealers, 14s to 525.

Botli sheep and lamb sales were conducted in very heavy rain.
