The British Embassy has protested to the Italian Government regarding the arrest of Mr. Hugh Montgomery, first secretary at’the British Legation at the Vatican City, who, during a cycle tour of Southern Italy, was questioned by the police and imprisoned for two days, although hisp papers were in order, and prevented from communicating with the British Consul. He was finally released with apologies. The police explain that two Germans allegedly spying were arrested in the neighbourhood. It was thought that Montgomery resembled one of the Germans.
