Lost Propeller.
In spite of the use of two launches and extensive dragging operations, no trace has yet been found of the propeller which the- steamer Wahine dropped at the entrance to the Inner Harbour at Lyttelton on Sunday morning. The propeller weighs 18cwt and is valued at about £5OO, being made of bronze. Tombstone Removed.
There are some strange twists in the mental make-up of human beings which find outlets in various ways. Kleptomania is now a recognised ailment, but it would certainly be difficult to supply the reason for the purloining of a tombstone from an Invercargill undertaker’s premises, states the Southland News. Cases are on record where people have had their tombs prepared prior to their death so the night prowler may have been going a step further in his anticipations. Helping Hand.
An amusing prank was played on a Wanganui resident recently. Having had his lawnmower removed without his permission, he advertised for its return. The next day his reverie was disturbed by a terrific clatter, and on looking out he saw a number of his neighbours, each pushing a lawnmower of doubtful age, the procession coming to a stop on the front lawn. Later the spectacle of a small army of lawnmowers cutting the grass caused much amusement.
