Kahi: The April meeting was'.held at the'.residence of Mrs. A. S. Hone, Mrs. Mountfort presiding over a record at- • tendance. The president gave as the month’s thought “What .dowelive for if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?” The possibility of sending a delegate to the annual conference to be held at Auckland in July, was discussed. Delegates fo'r the annual council meeting to be held at Wanganui on . April 10 were arranged for, and some time was sp6nt upon the consideration of the forthcoming election of the committee for the Wanganui district feder'ration. Remits for the same meeting were discussed and the delegate. instructed as to the meeting’s decision on the two points at issue. At the close of the business portion of the programme ■ a treasure hunt arranged by Mr§. Hone was held in the garden, Mrs. Water- ' land being the winner. An interesting and amusing competition was won by Miss L. Powell, with Mrs.'Tarrant second. In the competition, for the best jar of pickles Mrs. W. Morrison’s entry was adjudged first, Mrs. Bourke’s second and Mrs. Mountfort’s third. A vote of thanks was accorded the hostess, Mrs. A. S. Hone. Ohawe: Eleven members and two visitors were present at the last monthly meeting, presided over by Mrs. Tombleson. Mrs. Muggeridge and Mrs. Tombleson were chosen as group members. A competition for tinsel pictures ’ was won by Mrs. Foy, with Mrs. Hitch- , cock second. A„ time limit competition was „ won by Mrs. Foy. Mrs. Meharry demonstrated the making of mocassins. The hostesses were Mesdames Cox and Nicholas.

Okaiawa: The monthly meeting of the Okaiawa Institute was held on Friday, Mrs. Good presiding over a good attendance. Visitors were present from the Normanby institute. A “telegram” competition was won by Mrs. Allan and a gingemut competition by Miss B. Green. The demonstrator was Miss M. Ritter, her subject being picture-making from silver paper. The hostesses w ere Misses M. Giacometti and B. Green.

Rawhitiroa:— The institute held its monthly meeting on Friday, Mrs. Cave presiding over an attendance of 16. Three new members were welcomed.

Mrs. Woods, on behalf of members, welcomed Mrs. Cave to her new position as president. Miss O’Connor, Mrs. Wood and Miss O’Connor were elected dele-' gates to attend the council meeting at New Plymouth. A demonstration on the making of humpties was given by Mrs. J. R. M. Stewart. A competition for the best plate of pikelets was won by Mrs. Prankerd, with Mrs. Cave second and Miss E. Johnston third. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Wood and Miss E. Johnston.

MEREMERE CRICKET BALL. There was a large attendance at the second annual ball of the Meremere Cricket Club. Among those present were Misses D. Radford (blue satin with black velvet coatee), 'M. Wallace (green niatalasse), C. M. Webb (green floral geor,gette relieved with red), G. F. Murray (blue crepe marocain), E. Reynolds (scarlet wind-swept satin and black velvet coatee),, Mesdames J. Bloor_ (tangerine elephant crepe), H. Davison (cerise crepe marocain), W. Murray (black crepe marocain), J. Davison (navy satin), Misses S. Vincent (red satin and black cape),. M. Vincent (black lace), G. Emeny (blue floral Silk voile), Mavis ' Judd (lemon sand crepe), Muriel Judd (red satin), R. Townsend (silk voile), T. Spice (black satin), G. Parnell (floral sillc georgette), J. Little (cherry georgette), M. Little (blue silk georgette), Mrs. Hardwick (pink sand crepe), Misses J. Main' (blue satin and black velvet coatee), J. Wills (blue satin), Mesdames R. Wills (white satin), I. Lord (black and white silk), D. Rusden (rose pink ■ satin), Holmes (pale pink crepe de chine), H. Wills (floral taffeta), Misses F. Rogers (blue twinkle velvet), G. Webberley (rose pink satin), E. Wards (figured crepe de chine), M. Spice (cream voile), E. M. Harding (pale green Wimbledon crepe and cape to match), E. ■ Shand (pink silk lace over satin). The winners of the competitions were Messrs. P. Rayner and J. O'Shea. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. Richards and Miss Woods and a Monte Carlo fox-trot by Miss G. Parnell and

Mr. E. Radford. A third Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Woods and Mr. , J. Archer. The music was provided by Wills’ Melodymakers’ orchestra, extras being played by Mr. R. Wills. Mr. A. E. Williams was master of ceremonies.
