WAITARA BOROUGH FINANCES
ESTIMATES FOR COMING YEAR.
Rates in the Waitara borough for the present year will be at the same figure, 7Jd in the £1 on the unimproved value; as for the last 12 months, the council decided at the monthly meeting last night. The decision will be confirmed at'the next meeting. The council discussed the estimates for the year, which proposed expenditure amounting to £5614 10s and estimated receipts at £4233 17s 6d. The balance of £l3BO 12s 6d will be met by a general rate of 4d in the £1 on the rateable unimproved value of £86,189. Formal notice was given of the intention to make rates as follows: A consolidated rate of 74d in the £1 on the unimproved value, such rate being in lieu of a general rate of 4d and. special rates (i) of 21-8 d on the water drainage and streets loan of £20,425 and (ii) of 13-8 d on the Waitara borough conversion loan of £24,150; a water rate of Id in the £1 in connection with dwelling houses, of Id in £1 on all other buildings, or of half the above charges where water is available; and the same sanitation rate as last year. The estimated expenditure totalled £5614 10s, items being:— Office: Salaries, and assistance £390; Mayor’s honorarium £75, advertising, etc. £95, audit fees and. law £5O, valuation fees £l5, sundries £112; total £737.
Outside expenses: Wages and- labour £950, metal and sundries £325, street light maintenance £3BO, horse and cart £4O, tools and plant £3O, asphalting, timber and pipes, etc. £336, impounding and dog tax £6O, public revenues act £l6, engineering fees £35, sanitary inspector £22 10s, rent of rest room £39, election and licensing expenses £6O, sundries £240; total £2533 10s. Building: New offices (balance of cost) £350, alterations to library £255; total £605.
General: Sanitation £217, hospital contribution £406, band £25, domain £75, fire board £ll5, rest room £l9 10s, cemetery £6O, Egmont Park Board £4 10s, elections and licensing £6O, nightwatchman £9, share of interest 'and sinking fund £643; total £1096. Other expenditure: Library £143, bridge £500; total £643. Grand total £5614 10s.
