GOLF CLUB SEASON OPENED.
WOMEN’S DIVISION SOCIAL.
Mr. G. Irvine, Morrinsville, was a visitor to Waverley last week. Mr. J. Riddell, Waipukurau, has been visiting Waverley, staying with Messrs. Author and Eric Dickie. Mrs. R. P. Palmer, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Jean Palmer, and Misses J. Lupton and I. McGregor, leave on Monday for England. Mr. L. Craig, Taumarunui, was a visitor to Waverley during the week-end. . The Waverley Golf Club, held its official opening on Saturday. There was a good attendance of members and visitors from both Patea clubs. . Canadian foursomes were played, the winners being Mr. Thompson and Miss P. Gray, with Mr. Harris, Patea, and Miss B. Wallis runners-up. Mr. Jeffery gave two buttons for the winners, who may be challenged for these buttons by any other players throughout the season. The Waverley branch of the W.D.F.U. gave a concert and dance in the Waverley town hall on Friday. The attendance was fair and altogether the evening was successful. The concert programme was: Song, Mr. J. Crawford, Patea; song, Miss Rae Bond, Wanganui; vocal duet, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Patea; recitation, Miss McLaren, Wanganui; song, Mrs. Jones, Patea; song, Mr. J. Crawford; sOng, Miss Rae Bond'; song, Mr. Jones; sketch, “Taken at the Flood,” Mrs. Graves,' Mr. Currie, Mr. Cowdell, Mrs. Johnston. The supper room and tables were decorated with dahlias, zinnias and salvia bonfire in autumn shades. The music for dancing was played by Mrs. Haycock. Personal.
The death occurred very suddenly on Saturday night of Mrs. Gregor McGregor, of Waverley, aged 67. She leaves a husband, two sons, Mr. Eric McGregor (Upper Waitotara) and Mr. Douglas McGregor (Waverley) and two daughters, Mrs. G. Hughes (Patea) and Miss Jean McGregor (Waverley). The funeral, which was conducted by the Rev. A. G. Irvine, Hawera, was very largely attended. . • Mrs. Bremer and Mr. Alex Dickie motored to Auckland at the end of the week, where they intend spending a few d Miss Mitchell, “The Falls,” Kohl, who has been spending several weeks at Wellington, returned during the week. _ \ Mrs W. Bruce and Miss Bruce, who have been visiting Mr. W. H, Bruce, Werawcraonga Road, returned to Wanganui at the week-end. Mrs. J. Davidson left on Monday for Hawera, where she is the guest of Mrs. J. France.' _ Sister A. Spence and Nurse G. Spence, of the Hawera hospital staff, were visitors to Waverley during the week-end. Miss Nancy Mitcalfe returned to Auckland on Friday to take up her on the nursing staff at the Auckland hospital.
