GRAZING OF JUBILEE PARK. The monthly meeting of the Inglewood Borough Council was held last night, when Councillors F. Spurdie, R. B. Sutton, E. Crossman, E. H. Braybrooke, W. G. Ladbrook and N- Peters were present. Owing to the absence of the Mayor through illness, the chair was taken by the deputy-Mayor, Cr. F, Spurdie. The Inglewood United Rugby Football Club was granted the use of Jubilee Park on Saturday, April 13, to play the annual Tap O’Neill Shield match with Stratford. Cr. Sutton stated that it was understood that only sheep and cattle up to two years should be allowed on Trimble Park, but when it was ottered for auction recently dry stock was included in the cattle to be allowed to graze on the park. Undoubtedly it was a mistake, and he thought that the incoming council should be notified that it was the intention of the council that only sheep and cattle up to two years should be allowed to graze on the park. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote stating that the amount of £7 had been allotted the Inglewood borough from the recent art union. A letter, was received suggesting that a fireworks display would Be suitable for the King’s jubilee. All councillors agreed that such a display would be a waste of money, but thought that the town should be lit with coloured lights and decorated in other ways. Councillors Spurdie and Crossman and the town clerk were appointed a committee to interview the Inglewood school jubilee- committee as the school jubilee fell during the same time, to arrange suitable celebrations for the King’s jubilee.

Notice was received from the Treasury that the loans conversion had been successfully It was decided to accept the Railway Department’s conditions for the rating of the railway houses in the borough. The Inglewood Municipal Band was granted the usual subsidy /of £22 10s. The secretary of the band wrote stating that the band had given 14 public concerts during the year. It was decided to take out an insurance policy of £lOOO to cover any public risk. The overseer was instructed to erect rails along the sides of the culverts in Richmond and Carrington Streets, and to erect a street light ,in the Kelly Street extension. •On behalf of the council Cr. Sutton thanked the overseer and all borough employees for their faithful service during the year. The Press was also thanked, Mr. H. Winter, overseer, reported that during March general routine work had been attended to. The metalling of Kelly Street from Miro Street to the . new school had been completed. Drains had been cleaned as follows: Brookes Street, Brown Street, Standish Street, Hinau Street, Kelly Street and Kahikatea Street. The bulk of the work carried out during the month has been in connection with the reserves. The electrical engineer, Mr. H. Winter, stated that the number of units registered at the sub-station for the month was 44,660 units, as against 47,470 units for March, 1934. The maximum demand for the quarter was 162 k.v.a., as compared with 156 k.v.a. for the correspond-, ing period last year. The total number of units for the quarter was 133,960 units. During the month eight lighting points, five heating points and one motor were installed. Damage was done to the distribution lines and several service lines through sheets of galvanised iron being blown about during the storm on March 26. Repairs were carried out immediately and consumers suffered little inconvenience. A fire also occurred behind the testing switchboard in the workshop. This was also caused through .the storm. Fortunately the fire was suppressed before a great deal of damage was done. In her monthly report the librarian, Mrs. M. A. T. Evans, stated that eight new subscriptions were opened and six • were cancelled, leaving a total of 185 subscribers. Twenty-four new books were purchased and 27 repaired. • .
