COURT AWARDS COMPENSATION.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, April 9.
The Arbitration Court heard a claim for compensation made by William A. Johnston, watersider, of Wellington, against the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company for injuries received while working on the steamer Gale. A guy rope gave way and Johnston fell, injuring a knee. The defence was that Johnston was employed as a wharfman arid his duties did not involve his going on board any ship. Evidence was given by Johnston that he went aboard on' the instructions of an officer of the company. This was denied by the officer concerned. The judge said that the weight of evidence'was in favour of the plaintiff and the Court awarded full compensation to date and 50 per cent. . for the remainder of the period of disability and costs.
