Messrs. A. Dinsdale and R. Kilby, Tauranga, are spending a holiday at New Plymouth. Mr. J. Gibbs, Mayor of Inglewood, was unable to attend .the borough council meeting last night because of illness. Sympathy was expressed by councillors.

The Rt. ‘Hon. J. .G. Coates and Mrs. Coates leave Wellington by the Limited on Friday to join the Rangitane, which leaves at 10 a.m. on Saturday, reports the Press Association from Wellington.

The Hon. James McLeod and Dr. G. J. Adams, Wanganui, were nominated by the annual meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union last night as delegates to attend the English conference on Rugby football matters. The death has occurred of Mr. Thornton Henry Cape-Williams, formerly of the Railway Department, and wellknown recently for his work as honorary director of the Metropolitan Relief Association, states a Press Association messgae from Christchurch. He retired from this position in November owing to illness.

At the annual meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union last night reference was made by the president, Mr. J. O'Sullivan, to the death of Mr. W. D. Young, whom he characterised as one of the finest men that had ever been on the management committee of the union. The Hon. J. McLeod said later that Mr. Young had been the best incisive critic on the committee for many years and it was a tragedy that a man of such promise should have died so young.
