DOG TRIALS END

WHANGAMOMONA CLUB EVENTS. LOCAL CLASS WON BY D. LAW. The Whangamomona dog trials were concluded on Friday evening, when the local event was completed, the final runs taking place in darkness. There were seven competitors in the local event, which was an “all-round” one, with one dog. The dog had to hunt the sheep up the hill, head them, pull them back and hold them to the satisfaction of the judge. The winner was D. Law’s Lassie, which scored 37 of a possible 49. T-assie had a clear cut win of 6$ points over the runner-up, G. Gower’s Tweed. The remaining results are;— CLASS IV.: Local event, huntaway, head, pull and hold in ring. Time, 12m. Law’s trophy for local man scoring most points in clases I. and II.: J. Welsh. Mr. Laurie Hall’s (Stratford) Cup for youth scoring most points at the meeting: D. Law. Buckenham Bros.’ trophy for most points at the meeting: J. Welsh. C. Milne’s gold medal for classes 111. and IV.: D. Law. There was a large attendance at the club’s dance in the Whangamomona hall on Friday night, when Mr. D. Law was master of ceremonies. The music was provided voluntarily by Miss Eldridge, Mr. E. Cleland playing an . extra. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs. B. Boyle and Mr. O. McAloon. During an interval the trophies were presented by the president, Mr. J. K. Law, who congratulated the winners and thanked all who had contributed to the success of the trials. A competition was also decided for a beautifully iced cake made and given by Mrs. J. Selby, Tahora. Surmounted by a neat kennel with dog chain and collar attached, it was certainly an appropriate design for the occasion. The winner was H. Frewin, Whangamomona, and the funds benefited by £6 3s as the result of the competition.
