Wellington, Last Night The following degrees were conrerred by the University of New Zealand today:— Doctor of Literature: Basil Hillyer Howard, Otago. Master of Arts: First class in English, James Munro Bertram, Auckland. Bachelor of Arts; Gwenda Josephine Norman-Jones, Victoria. Bachelor of Commerce: Raymond Frank Galyer, Victoria; Thomas Richard Smith, Canterbury. Bachelor of Engineering: William Mowbray Eastgate Mirams (electricity and civil), Canterbury. Bachelor o£ Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery: David Athol Arnott, Douglas William Guthrie, William Hawksworth, Marion Kerr Steven, Otago. The following have been nominated to the shipping companies for university free passages: J. P. Belshaw (Auckland), J. W. Mitchell (Canterbury) D. W. McElwain (Victoria), G. A. H. Helson (Canterbury). i The following special prizes were, awarded: Sir Julius Von Haast prize in geology: C. O. Hutton (Otago); Cook Memorial (for mathematics), H. W. Wilson (Otago); Sir James Wilson prize in agriculture, W. M. Hamilton (Massey College); Schlich Memorial prize in forestry, J. F.
