PLUNKET CARNIVAL ACTIVITIES. The Norfolk Plunket committee has received congratulations on its success in the recent carnival, having raised £64 18s Id. Hostesses for the candidate (Doreen Ward) were Mesdamfes Mantey, Fischer, Byrne, Fabish (2), Ward, L. Brown, AdnamS, Startup and BirchJohftstone. .Competitions were won as follows: Competition number, Mrs. Startup 1 (339), Mr. T. W. Ward 2 (243), ■Mrs. Marsh, Inglewood, 3 (486); lady’s vest and stockings, Mrs. Bennett (Lincoln Road); plaque given by Mrs. F. West, Daisy Egarr; cake, Mrs, Rustling; wine, Mr. P. Moratti; cigarettes, Mr. Whitaker; lucky apron number, Mrs. W. Brown, New Plymouth. Gift Evening. A gift evening was tendered Miss Maida Cornfey and Mr. Miles Burgess at the Norfolk school on Friday evening. The popularity of the young couple was shown by the very large attendance and the presents received. Presentations were made from the basketball, tennis and football clubs and from the Women’s Institute. On behalf of the basketball girls Mr. W. Brown presented Miss Corney with a clock and from the in-
stitute a coffee set. Mr. Walker, president of the tennis club, asked the young couple, who were both active members of the club, to accept a tea-waggon. Mr. L. Brown and Mr. Jack Douglas on •behalf of the football club asked them to accept a dinner set. Mr. Burgess and Miss Corney both suitably replied. Personal. Miss Corney entertained at her home on Tuesday night in honour of her sister’s marriage to Mr. Miles Burgess. Miss Sylvia Butler (Marton) and Miss Freda Westwood (Wanganui) were the guests of Miss Corney for the BurgessCorney wedding this week. Miss E. Corney is the gUe'st of her sister, Miss F. Corney. . . MiSs G. Pearce is the guest ?of Mrs. Burgess. Miss Violet Macmillan visited the district recently, when she gave. an excellent demonstration on toy-making.
