BILLY BOYS’ WORKSHOP

CRADLE FOR THE DOLLS’ HOUSE. This doll’s cradle, which is quite easy to make, will give a gooa lesson in simple carpentry, and make a nice present for a young sister or cousin. Any sort of wood planed to a thickness of n quarter of an inch, or even plywood, can be used for most of the parts. Mark out the different pieces to the sizes given in the diagrams, and cut them out with a small tenon saw. Cut Out the curved parts with a fret saw, then trim the edges with your small plane. The floor is twelve and a half inches long, .and five and a half inches wide. Cut the two side pieces for the head of the cradle to the sizes given in diagram A, sloping the top and bottom edges at an angle to the back edge, as indicated. Glue and nail these pieces to the ends of the cradle sides, as shown in the first diagram, nail the sides to the foot end, and glue and nail the back up-

right to the edges of the side uprights. For the top, cut a piece of plywood or thin fretwood to the size required, and nail it, with fine wire brads, to the side and back uprights at the head of the cradle. See that an equal amount overlaps all round. Now glue and nail the floor to the lower edges of the sides and ends. . , For the rockers, cut two pieces _ of three-eighths-inch wood to the sizes given in the diagram, and, after .smoothing the curved edges with glasspaper, fix in place by small screws driven in from the top of the floor inside the cradle. . Give the wood a coat of paint in one. or two bright colours, and allow it to dry before the cradle is used. The sizes given in the diagrams may be proportionately increased or decreased if a larger or smaller cradle is required.
