PURANGI DISTRICT
GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. Keen interest has been taken in swimming among the Purangi school children this season, and last Thursday the children were tried for their swimming certificates. The following being the results:—
Learners certificates (minimum 50yds):
Girlie Nuku 60yds, Lena Puata 60, Nona Teika 120, Leo Teika 120, Alan Teika 120, Bill Puata 150. Proficiency certificate (minimum 220 yards): Ray Caldwell 240yds Certificates of merit (minimum 880yds) Peggy Butters 900yds, Bennet Bertrand 960, Joseph Teika 1590, Velme Caldwell 1920, Mingi Puata 1920. The Purangi school children are busy
practising for participation in the school sports meeting at Kohuratahi on March 29. Miss Campbell has returned home after spending a holiday at Whangamomona. The Rev. M. Raine was the guest of Mrs. Mathews early in the week. Mrs. Neilson, Whangamomona, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Campbell, has returned home.
Mesdames Turner, Watkins, Fletcher, Caldwell, A. G. Webb, J. Mounsey, E. Gilliver and Miss S. Mounsey were visitors to the birthday party of the Matau branch of the Women’s Division on Wednesday. The Rev. Mr. Raine held the second of a series of special Lenten services in St. Peter’s Church on Tuesday evening.
