HIGH SCHOOL MASTER

NEW HAWERA APPOINTMENT.

MR. G. L. MATHER, M.A., AUCKLAND Mr. G. L. Mather, M.A., Auckland Grammar Schdol, was yesterday appointed an assistant master at the Hawera Technical High School by the board of managers at a special meeting. There were 36 Applicants for the position, 22 bciiig men and eight women. The position was rendered vacant by the resignation of Miss I. V. Jenkin. Mr. Mather, who has the highest qualifications and recommendations, is 29 years of age, and was educated at the Tauranga District High School and the Auckland Grammar School. At Auckland University College he graduated master of arts with first-class honours in history. He has had 12 years’ teaching experience, including seven as a master at the Auckland Grammar School. In addition to his academic qualifications Mr. Mather will be an acquisition to the school in outside activities. He is an active cricketc - hockey player and swimmer, and holds awards in Royal Life-saving Society work. At Auckland Grammar • School he has coached the second cricket eleven and OHe of the junior football teams, and he acted as a hockey and swimming teach. Hfe has also had special experience in physical culture work and is a captain in the school cadet corps. He was gold medallist in oratory at the Auckland Training College in 1927.
