WEST END JUBILEE
BALL ATTENDED BY 500 PEOPLE. NO VET. DECORATIONS EFFECTIVE. More than 500 dancers attended the West End school jubilee ball in the Agricultural Hall at New Plymouth last night. The novel scenic wall decorations, with their panoramic seascapes and landscapes, were most effective settings for the women’s frocks, the shades of which were vividly lit by coloured lights fixed between the pendant decorations overhead.
The supper room was transformed similarly, the walls bearing panoramas in attractively bordered , panels, while the tables were artistically arranged with foliage and flowers in season, a featured colour being scarlet. The decorations, which were designed by Mr. D. Roberts, were the subject of favourable comment.
Thanks to the arrangements made by Messrs. K. C. Jury (chairman), W. ‘S. Thomson, E. Le Pine and R. O’Dowda, assisted by many others, the gathering was a distinct success. The masters of ceremonies were Messrs. J. Donaldson and G. D. Sole and the music was played by Vinsen’s orcehstra, with an extra by Mr. R. Bums. Mrs; W. W. Thomson was convener or the large women’s committee responsible for the supper. Tables for the signing of the rolls were supervised by Mrs. W. H. Jones, Miss Taylor and Mr. H. J. Abram. Floodlight photographs of the dancers were taken.
