TAUMARUNUI SALE
LARGE YARDING OF SHEEP. REDUCTION IN LAMB PRICES. (Special to Daily News.) Taumarunui, March 5. The yarding at the Taumarunui stock sale to-day comprised 6000 sheep, 40 pigs and 50 head of cattle. There was a large attendance and’ buyers were present from Raetihi, Ohura, Te Kuiti and Waikato. The demand for lambs was not as good as at previous sales but in spite of the lower values ruling vendors met the market and a total clearance of sheep was effected. The best fat wethers made up to 23a 3, fat lambs changed hands at 19s 4d, and fat ewes sold tn 18s, four-tooth ewes to 29s 7d and small lots of twotooths to 265. Pigs, as usual at this time of year, were not in very great demand but good weaners made up to 15s 6d. Fat steers and cows made £4 2s and £4 Is respectively and young, good-coloured steers changed. hands at from £2 16s to £S 18s. One useful farm horse made £22 10s. Following prices were paid:— Pigs: Empty sows, 10s to 16s; Tamworth boars, £2 2s; good weaners, Ils to 15s 6d; small weaners, 4s 6d to 10s. Sheep: Fat wethers, _2ls 7d to 23s 3d; fat ewes, 17s to 18s; fat lambs, 19s 4d; fat and forward wethers, 20s 6d; fourtooth wethers, 19s 4d; four-year ewes, 20s 2d; four and five-year ewes, 17s, 17s 6d, 18s to 21s 2d; two-tooth ewes, 22s Id to 265; four-tooth ewes, -29 s 7d; old and m.a. ewes, 9s to 17s Id; m.s. lambs, 10s 4d to 17s lOd; wether lambs, 13s 2d to 18s 4d; ewe lambs, 14s 2d; cull lambs, 4s to 10s 6d. Cattle: Fat cows, £4 Is; fat steers, £4 2s; empty cows, £2; 18-months steers, £2 16s to £3 18s; 18-months heifers, 31s to £2 10s; cows and calves, 355. Farm horse: £22 10s.
