Sympathy with Cr. W. Cartwright in his illness was expressed by the Taranaki County Council yesterday. The death of Mr. Silas Spragg, aged 81, chief Hansard reporter for 24 years, is reported by the Press Association from Dunedin.

The Rev. F. Copeland, who attended the annual conference of the Methodist Church at Dunedin, returns to New Plymouth next Thursday.

The King and Queen of the Belgians arrived at Dover from Ostend On Saturday night on a short private visit to England, states a London cable.

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Valentine, New Plymouth, will leave early next month on a visit to their son in Australia. They expect to remain about a month. Mr. Hugh Baily, secretary to the Egmont National Park Board, was granted leave of absence at yesterday’s meeting of the board and Mr. L. Lovell was appointed acting-secretary. Messrs. P. E. Stainton, chairman of the Taranaki Hospital Board, and S. Vickers, deputy-chairman, leave to-day for Napier to attend the biennial conference of the Hospital Board’s Association.. Mr. Vickers is a member of the Dominion executive.

Mr. W. C. Weston, new chairman of the Egmont National Park Board, was welcomed by Messrs. T. R. Anderson, W. G. Walkley and F. Amoore at yesterday’s meeting of the board at Dawsons Falls. All paid tribute to Mr. Weston’s service on behalf of the mountain. Mr. Weston, in replying, said he hoped the board would always be a happy family.
