control of the men’s committee, Messrs. L. G. Grey, J. M. Sharpe, J. Payne, W. W. Maskelyne and H. J. Keys. Some 50 adults and 40 children sat down to lunch and afternoon tea, the catering being in the hands of the women’s committee, Meadames H. Looney, J. Payne, G. Green, J. Keys, J. Green, L. Grey, F. MacGregor, H. Watson, J. Cook and C. Northcott. The children’s races were run on the "Alice in Wonderland” principle, all deserving, all winning, and all duly receiving prizes. The adults, however, had
to work hard for their laurels. Among the children, an outstanding win was that of George Grey, with a cricket-ball throw of 48 yards. . In the evening, a dance was held m the Koru Hall, about 30 couples being present. Mr. J. Payne was master of ceremonies, Mr. F. Boulton played the music, and supper was served by members of the women’s committee. A competition was won by Henry Green. Children’s classes were held in the Koru Hall on Wednesday last by Canon C. E. Newbould. Similar classes will be
conducted by Rev. R. Grindlay on Wednesday next. The approaches to Koru pa suffered during the recent storm, the swing bridge over the Oakura River being washed away. The pa may still be reached by those energetic enough to jump from stone to stone across the river at the northern extremity of the grounds.
